Materials science research celebrated at student conference

The latest research in materials science was on display in Bristol where PhD students gathered with their academic and AWE industrial sponsors for a two-day conference. To celebrate the achievements of participating researchers prizes were on offer for the best presentation and poster. Judges assessed all of the talks given during the conference programme, as well as the poster exhibition on display throughout the two days.

The awards were presented by Christopher Weston-Simons, Master of The Worshipful Company of Armourers and Braziers’. As a result the award winners now become alumni members of the society.

Poster Prize - Joe Mahmoud

The prize for best poster was awarded to Joe Mahmoud from the University of Manchester, for his work entitled 'Rapid radiochemical separations of americium'.

This poster was selected by a panel of judges out of 17 entries. The exhibition also included an AWE graduate poster programme.

Presentation Prize - Jolene Cook

The best presentation award was given to Jolene Cook from the University of Bristol for her work entitled 'Recent studies of uranium corrosion: the role of stress'.

Congratulations to both, and to all students who presented their work!
