Project LIBRA – Complete!

UK LIBRA, a ground-breaking project launched as part of the UKAEA Fusion Industry Programme (FIP), launched just over 18 months ago. Designed to address the challenge “Realising the potential of lithium in an economic, sustainable and scalable fusion energy fuel-cycle”, the project has now ended, with researchers at the University of Bristol looking to publish key findings in the very near future.

During the project, lithium-based tritium breeders were manufactured from scratch and tested under neutron irradiation to assess their efficiency for tritium breeding. The project was completed in collaboration with Astral Systems, IDOM and Clifton Photonics who each contributed great effort to achieve the project goals.

LIBRA concluded on the 31st March 2025. Watch this space for updates on the exciting results of this project!
