A team of MSc students from the University of Bristol will represent the UK on the European stage after winning the national Innovation for Nuclear finale.
Innovation for Nuclear (I4N) is an internationally recognised competition which encourages and rewards the development and presentation of creative ideas relating to nuclear technologies and their applications. Aimed at young professionals and students, this year’s competition focused on the theme of “Nuclear Towards the Sustainable Development Goals”.
The team from Bristol, comprised of Tad Golunski, Annabel McGrath, Adam Russell, and Hannah Tayler, are currently in the midst of completing their MSc in Nuclear Science and Engineering.
Presenting to a panel of judges (all experts from the nuclear industry) at the Arup Headquarters in London, the group developed the concept of mobile nuclear microreactors which could theoretically be utilised in the aftermath of natural disasters to provide relief.
Sharing her experience of the event on LinkedIn, Hannah Tayler said:
“This achievement underscores the potential of nuclear innovation to drive tangible progress towards a more sustainable and resilient world. We look forward to showcasing how our solution can contribute to global goals like clean energy, climate action, and resilient infrastructure.”
Having won the UK-level competition, they will now be representing the UK at the European finals in Sofia, Bulgaria this June.
HUGE congratulations to Tad, Annabel, Adam and Hannah, and good luck for the next event from the SWNH!
