A note from Professor Tom Scott.
"It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that Professor Peter Flewitt has sadly passed away. He died peacefully on Saturday 21st September, surrounded by his family, having taken ill suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday night. Many of the team in the Interface Analysis Centre had been working with Peter last week and so this comes as an unexpected shock.
On a personal note, Peter was a mentor and supporter for nearly 25 years. He helped me to establish the South West Nuclear Hub and the Bristol-Oxford Nuclear Research Centre, as well as the University’s strategic partnership with EDF Energy. He was always someone to be trusted as having sound judgement, boundless energy for research, academic rigour, and full consideration of the people as well as the technical problems. I will miss him very much.
It is quite unusual for someone to keep working as Peter did into their mid-80s. It is a testament to all his colleagues over the years at Bristol that he felt his work with us was of such value that he continued in this way, working a full day, as usual, even on Fridays. He loved science and engineering, and we will miss him dearly."
