Hub Members shortlisted for The Engineer awards

[threecol_one_last] Hub members the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC) has been shortlisted for a The Engineer Collaborate to Innovate award.

This is for their Nuclear Innovation Programme projects SIMPLE and InFORM. These are collaborations between: Nuclear AMRC, University of Sheffield Physics Dept, University of Strathclyde, TWI, Peak NDT, Sheffield Forgemasters, Metlase, Cambridge Vacuum Engineering.

InFORM project

The Inform project aims to develop a range of advanced techniques which could halve the cost and time of manufacturing large complex nuclear components. This is being supported by £1.1m funding from the Department for Business, Energy & Industry Strategy (BEIS).

The Simple project aims to integrate a range of machining, fabrication and inspection operations onto a single manufacturing platform, reducing the need to move large items and components between work areas.

Elsewhere Associate Members the National Nuclear Laboratory has been shortlisted in the Aerospace, Defence & Security category for the below project:

  • UK scientists generate electricity from rare element to power future space missions –University of Leicester, National Nuclear Laboratory & European Thermodynamics Ltd

2018 Success

This is not the first involvement for our network. At the 2018 awards ceremony, the South West Nuclear Hub as a whole won the Academic Innovator category, showcasing innovative projects such as diamond detectors for radiation dose rate measurements, seismic qualification of graphite and pipeline devices for radioactive environments.
