The Hub's Nuclear Seminar Series returned with a special lecture in conjunction with the Nuclear Institute Western Branch. Colin Hunt, Secretary of the Canadian Nuclear Society, presented a thorough overview of Canada's nuclear industry in the 21st century, as part of a week-long tour of the UK.

The talk gave an overview of the Canadian nuclear industry as it exists today, focusing on CANDU reactor technology and the major power plant sites in the country. Non-energy uses of nucleaer materials, particularly cobalt were then explored as this is heavily used for medical purposes by Bruce Power.
Finally, Mr Hunt spoke about the prospect of Small Modular Reactors and Deep Geological Disposal, with the future the Canadian industry a popular topic in the Q&A session.

Speaker Biography
Colin Hunt - Canadian Nuclear Society Secretary and Publisher of the Nuclear Canada Yearbook and other CNS publications
With a degree in history and a diploma in journalism, Colin began his career editing for a number of Canadian publications before becoming editor of Electricity Today Magazine. Colin then joined the Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA), a national industry association representing Canada’s nuclear industry where he was editor for the monthly newsletter and provided speech writing support to the President.
Subsequently, Colin took on the role of Director of Publications and Research for the CNA during which time he gave all media interviews for the CNA, designed and managed a large expert research programme and led some of the industry's most important lobbying activity. Colin has also held the role of Chief Financial Officer, managing the CNA's bank account and investment portfolio.
He has authored a number of publications, including the Nuclear Canada Yearbook between 1995 and 2010. The Yearbook was a for-profit publication with national and international circulation. It is also the only commercial Buyer’s Guide for Canada’s nuclear industry.
Nuclear Institute UK tour
