A group of PhD students and researchers from the University of Bristol travelled to Yorkshire this week to showcase their work and engage with the diverse challenges in the nuclear sector at the Universities Nuclear Technology Forum (UNTF) 2024.
The forum, hosted by The University of Leeds this year, featured insightful technical presentations from industry leaders, including representatives from Rolls Royce, Sellafield, and NNL, emphasising the promising future of nuclear energy in the UK and the transition from academia to industry roles.
The students effectively communicated their research, earning awards for their efforts. The PhD students Alex Carpenter received the Best Presentation award, while Ewan Woodbridge was the runner-up for Best Presentation, and the runner-up for Best Poster was awarded to Billy Murphy.
With industry leaders highlighting the need to bridge the nuclear skills gap, UNTF serves as an excellent platform for exciting discussions among the next generation of nuclear scientists and engineers. This event provided a collaborative environment to address future challenges and explore collective solutions.
The team is looking forward to UNTF 2025, which will be held at the University of Strathclyde.
