Dr Peter Martin and the team at the South West Nuclear Hub put together an emergency relief package for Ukraine to support businesses who have been affected by the current military action.
The Hub has well established links with businesses and organisations in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, with University of Bristol researchers regularly conducting research in Ukraine.
A large pallet of electronics was sent earlier this month to help set up new offices in the area. This included desktop computers, laptops, screens, mouse, cables, telephones, and routers.
Dr Martin, a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow, said,
“We were working with colleagues in Ukraine in Chornobyl prior to recent events, so it was sad to see the impacts of the Russian invasion. Hopefully, the IT and scientific equipment we have been able to supply will allow them to rebuild their facilities and laboratories”.
More support is still needed
We will be putting together another package in due course, so if you have any spare electric/electronic items at home that you would be happy to donate, please drop them off at the David Smith Building, 73 St Michael's Hill, BS2 8BH.
